Offroad Adventures in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is known for virgin beaches, sport fishing, scuba diving, happening nightlife, and world class golf courses; but what many people don’t know is that the desert landscape of Southern Baja is home to some of the most exciting offroad adventures. Los Cabos is famous for being the finish line of the popular Tecate Baja 1000 extreme race and tour guide companies have capitalized on the perfect natural resources for offroading adventures. Whether you want to jump on a dirt bike, ATV, or race a professional dune buggy, there are several options for different levels of excitement traversing the dry desert of Baja California.

Before you go

Safety: Just because you are in Mexico doesn’t mean safety is not the number one rule. You will be required to where helmets and goggles at all time and each tour company will explain their rules for trekking around Baja in an offroad vehicle. You’re guaranteed to get the adrenaline rush you are looking for but you will have to abide by rules just like in the U.S.

Protected Beaches: Baja California is serious about protecting the natural ecosystem and do not let offroad vehicles on the beaches in the tourist zone. Some tour guides will take you to some secluded beaches and let you roam around but ask if that is on the itinerary ahead of time if it is a priority of yours.

What to bring: Comfortable clothing, sun glasses, sun screen, camera, hat, hiking or tennis shoes (no flip flops or sandals), towel. Water and snack are generally provided but double check with your tour guide to ensure you aren’t left out in the desert dehydrated and hungry. Most tour companies end the tour at their gift shop, restaurant, or photo booth where you will want to have a little cash on hand for any souvenirs.

Age requirement: The minimum age requirement for dune buggy’s and 4x4 vehicles is 18 years. ATV rentals only require the driver to be 16 years old but they must have a signed parent’s consent. Children must be 3-4 years or older to ride along.
